Beben takes place after the February 27th, 2010, earthquake in Chile. Four german volunteers from an international NGO are helping build camps in the south of Chile, the affected area. The play is based in the story “The earthquake in Chile” (1807) by Heinrich Von Kleist.
This is the first time that Guillermo Calderón, renowned director and playwright, has trusted the direction and artistic decisions to a director other than himself. Beben was his first foreign play, it was commissioned by the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus theater in Germany, where it was also premiered.
The show is a co-production of Checoeslovaquia and premiered at the Teatro Duoc UC during the Ciclo Teatro Hoy de Fundación Teatro a Mil in june 2017, since then it has had presentations in diverse festivals and seasons.
